Copper Ethernet Providers
The general rule for availability is that the customer’s business location must be within 9000 feet of the point of presence (POP) of a provider that offers ethernet over copper for that area. This usually narrows availability of ethernet over copper to customers who are in urban areas. Although it is not available to all business locations at this time, ethernet over copper provides extreme savings to customers who are within range. Ethernet over copper is extremely reliable, and carries the same service level guarantees as other forms of internet or private data services, such as T1, or DS3. Copper ethernet not only provides extreme savings in monthly cost, but because it is provided over copper telephone lines that are available to virtually all business locations, it can often be installed free, with none of the costly build-out charges often required by the special wiring needed to provide DS3. Ethernet over ds1 is a cost effective alternative for customers who are beyond the 9000 foot limitation required by ethernet over copper. Ethernet over ds1 is not available to all locations, but does have a far greater reach than EOC, and often costs about half of what the equivalent bandwidths of bonded t1 or fractional ds3. Because ethernet over DS1 is provided over copper wire (telephone lines) as well, it can often be provided with no installation charges, or the expensive build-out charges required by fractional or full DS3. Ethernet over copper and ethernet over ds1 are compatible with each other as well as ds1 (t1), bonded t1 or ds3 for networking multiple locations with MPLS (multiprotocol label switching). Ethernet is also extremely effective for high bandwidth internet access and point-to-point connections. T1 Data (Internet), an Introduction
Writen by: Dennis Green
A T1 data line is a high speed, 1.54 megabits per second (Mbps), circuit which is comprised of 24 individual DS-O circuits. Each DS-O channel has a speed of 64 kilobits per second (Kbps). For perspective, your home telephone line is likely a DS-O line. T1 data lines are also at times referred to as DS1 circuits. T1 data is carried through two twisted pairs of copper wires. Virtually, all residences and businesses currently have two pairs of copper wires running to them. T1 lines are capable of delivering 1.54 Mbps simultaneously in both directions, one direction for each pair of copper lines. Because T1 data service is repeater driven (signal is digitally reestablished every 6000 feet), it is available several miles from telephone central offices. For this reason, T1 service can be available to virtually all of the businesses in the US. T1 lines are dedicated, in that they are always connected, and are also extremely stable. Most reputable providers include service level agreements which guarantee the reliability of the T1 lines they offer. Although the term T1 is commonly used when referring to a dedicated high bandwidth connection to the internet, T1 circuits can transfer data in many forms to accomplish a variety of functions. These include: fractional t1 (commonly 128 Kbps to 756 Kbps), burstable (less expensive for companies which normally do not need a full DS1/T1), integrated T1 (one T1 line comprised of any combination the types of DS1/T1 listed here), channelized DS1 (one form of integrated T1), point-to-point (direct and constant DS1 connection between to locations), dynamic integrated (a more state-of-the-art alternative to channelized integrated), local (local phone service), PRI, MPLS (multiprotocol label switching), and frame relay. Each of these types of DS1/T1 has advantages over the others, depending on the specific needs of your company. Also, the availability of each is based on the offerings of each T1 provider and the geographic location. As the authorized sales agent for the top 20 T1 providers in the country, we are able to provide real-time availability and comparative price quotes for any address in the country.
